How to Obtain a Birth Record from Another State

The Brazoria County Clerk’s Office can issue birth certificates for individuals born in the State of Texas (special situations may not apply).

Types of Birth Certificates:
This office issues two types of birth certificates –
Long Form Certificates for the births that occurred in Brazoria County
Short Form Certificate (Abstract) for births that occurred in the State of Texas, but after 1926

This office does NOT issue wallet size birth certificates.

Qualified Applicant:
The person named on the record, a parent, child (over the age of 18), sibling, spouse, grandparent, step-parent, step-sibling, legal guardian or managing conservator.

Proper Identification:
The qualified applicant MUST present a Valid Government or State Issued Picture Identification

Cost:
$23.00 per Certified Copy

Method of Payment:
Cash, Credit Card (convenience fee)
Cashiers Check or Money Order (payable to Brazoria County Clerk)
Personal Checks – NOT ACCEPTED

In-Office Request for Certificate:
Walk into any of following offices during business hours to obtain a certificate within minutes.

Certificate Request by Mail:
To obtain a certificate by mail –

Complete the Birth / Death Application form OR Send a letter providing the following information

• Full Name on Birth Record
• Date and Place of Birth
• Full Name of Parents
• Name, Address and Phone Number of Requestor
• Relation to Person on the Birth Record

Include a copy of the applicant’s valid picture ID along with an accepted method of payment. Please provide a legible return address and day time telephone number (if available). Allow 5 - 7 days for delivery.

To obtain a certificate by Credit Card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express & Discover) –

• Print and Complete the Birth / Death Application form
• Process Payment thru Certified Payments 
  **Process full payment if requesting Expedited Mail Service
  Type of Transaction – Vitals
• Write the Certified Payments confirmation number on the Birth Application
• Submit the completed Birth Application with a copy of the applicant’s valid picture ID by:

Please allow 5 - 7 days for delivery - Once the complete birth certificate request is received and verified by the County Clerk’s Office.

If the County Clerk’s Office does not receive the Birth Application and/or Identification within 48 hours after the payment has been submitted, a refund will be processed (convenience fee excluded).

Expedited Mail Service:
To request Expedited Services for a Certificate Paid by Credit Card –

• Print and Complete the Expedited Mail Service Form
• Process Full Payment thru Certified Payments
• Fax the Birth Application, copy of the applicant’s valid picture ID and Expedited Services Form to the County Clerk’s Office (numbers listed above)

The birth request will be processed the same day it is received and verified by the County Clerk’s Office-
